“Cashback” is rated R (under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian) for graphic nudity, sexual content and language. The hero’s pained, hilarious childhood flashbacks deserve a much better movie.
Ben Willis: Why Sharon Pintey: I think it might have something to do with their ability to see beauty. But between the film’s validation of Ben’s adolescent concept of beauty, its wafer-thin characterizations, its gorgeous but overwrought widescreen photography and its abundance of “How did they do that?” trick shots, “Cashback” instead suggests a “Malcolm in the Middle” episode directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Sharon Pintey: Ive always wanted to meet a painter. With its depressive, wishy-washy hero and alterna-pop soundtrack, “Cashback” wants to be a 21st-century answer to “The Graduate” (whose hero was also named Ben). At this point, the film taught me that I should. Ben realizes his mistake and goes to ask Sharon for forgiveness. This conceit leads to tableaus of nude and seminude hotties and pseudo-profound ruminations on the irreversibility of life and the mystery of beauty (which this film equates with Maxim models). Sharon watches and becomes disappointed in Ben. The main bonus feature is centered around the high-stakes poker game depicted in the film, and can lead to one of two progressive jackpots. When Ben isn’t sort-of flirting with a lovely, smart colleague named Sharon (Emilia Fox) and smugly tolerating the antics of his macho doltish co-workers and preening, tyrannical boss, he’s imagining that he can freeze time.
The result may be a crock like “Cashback,” the writer and director Sean Ellis’s tale of a supertalented, insomniac art student named Ben Willis (Sean Biggerstaff of the “Harry Potter” series) who tries to forget a traumatic breakup by working the overnight shift at a supermarket.
Ben se imagina a s mismo parando el tiempo con Sharon. Para hacer ms llevadera la vigilia, empieza a trabajar en el turno de noche del supermercado del barrio.
CASHBACK MOVIE SHARON FULL
The film is full of allusions like that, such as the scene with Sharons. Ben Willis, estudiante de Bellas Artes, sufre de insomnio como consecuencia del abandono de su novia, Suzy. Beware films with protagonists depicted as vastly more sensitive than their fellow characters. Cashback When London art student Ben Willis goes through a painful break-up.
